This page outlines the technical materials, construction standards, and performance specifications used across Designito seating and upholstered furniture. Specifications are provided to support transparency and informed comparison.

Specifications listed on this page reflect typical construction standards. Final materials and performance characteristics may vary by product configuration. For details on how these materials are assembled and quality-checked, see our Manufacturing & Craftsmanship page.

1. Structural Frame Construction

All Designito upholstered seating is built on engineered hardwood frames designed for long-term structural stability under daily residential use and selective commercial environments.

Component Specification
Primary Frame Kiln-dried solid hardwood (beech or birch), moisture content <10%
Reinforcement Multi-layer plywood at load-bearing joints
Joinery Dowelled, corner-blocked, and adhesive-bonded joints
Expected Lifespan 10–15+ years under normal residential use

2. Cushion & Foam Engineering

Comfort is engineered through calibrated foam densities and load ratings rather than surface softness alone. All foams used are high-resilience polyurethane foams suitable for extended seating use.

Seat Cushion Construction
Layer Specification
Top Comfort Layer High-resilience foam (30–35 kg/m³) or down-blend, model dependent
Support Core High-density foam, 40–45 kg/m³
Indentation Load Deflection (ILD) 35–45 ILD (seat base)
Expected Lifespan 10–15+ years under normal residential use
Back Cushion Construction
Component Specification
Primary Fill Goose down and feather blend (down-forward composition)
Internal Support Soft polyurethane foam insert, 25–30 kg/m³
ILD Range 20–25 ILD

3. Upholstery Materials & Fabric Performance

Upholstery options include woven textiles, performance fabrics, and leather selections. Performance metrics vary by material and are provided as reference ranges.

Metric Typical Performance Testing Standard
Martindale Abrasion 40,000 – 80,000 rubs ISO 12947
Wyzenbeek Abrasion 30,000 – 60,000 double rubs ASTM D4157
Pilling Resistance Grade 3-4 ISO 12945
Color Fastness to Light Grade 4-5 ISO 105-B02

Exact fabric specifications are available upon request based on the selected upholstery. Coverage details are outlined in our Warranty & Quality Standards documentation.

4. Suspension Systems

Seat suspension plays a critical role in comfort and longevity. Designito seating systems use elastic support engineered to distribute load evenly across the frame.

System Specification
Seat Support Heavy-duty elastic webbing, cross-laced
Back Support Flexible elastic support or molded foam shell, model dependent

5. Fire Safety & Regulatory Standards

Materials are selected to meet applicable fire safety requirements depending on region and upholstery choice.

Region Specification
United States (Residential) California TB117-2013 (smolder resistance)
United Kingdom / uropean Union BS 5852 (available upon request, ignition source dependent)
Contract / Commercial Projects Compliance available based on project scope

Fire-retardant compliance varies by material selection and jurisdiction. Documentation is provided where applicable.

6. Commercial-Grade Use

Select Designito models and material configurations are suitable for light commercial environments such as offices, lounges, and hospitality settings.

  • Reinforced frame construction
  • High-density foam cores (≥40 kg/m³)
  • High-abrasion upholstery options

Commercial suitability depends on final material configuration and does not imply universal certification unless specified in writing.

FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

Are these specifications exact?

Foam densities and ILD ranges are exact to the specified engineering ranges. Upholstery performance metrics may vary by fabric selection and supplier batch.

Do down-filled cushions require maintenance?

Down-filled cushions benefit from periodic fluffing to maintain loft and comfort. This is normal and does not indicate loss of structural support.

Can I request full technical sheets?

Yes. Full material and performance documentation is available upon request for specific products or project requirements.

Are Designito products affiliated with original designers or manufacturers?

No. Designito is an independent furniture brand and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any original designer or manufacturer.

Why does Designito use kiln-dried hardwood instead of standard timber?

Standard wood contains moisture that causes it to warp, shrink, or crack over time as your home’s humidity changes. Our hardwood is kiln-dried to a specific moisture content (typically 6-8%), which "locks" the wood in place. This ensures the frame stays silent, sturdy, and perfectly aligned for the life of the furniture.

What type of suspension system is used in Designito seating?

Depending on the design's silhouette, we use either high-tensile sinuous steel springs or Italian-made reinforced elastic webbing. For our low-profile modular icons, we favor high-rub reinforced webbing, which provides the signature "suspended" comfort common in premium Italian upholstery while maintaining a slim, architectural profile.

What is the difference between Foam Density and ILD (Indentation Load Deflection)?

While often confused, they measure different things. Density (measured in pounds per cubic foot) refers to the foam’s weight and quality; higher density means a longer lifespan and better resistance to sagging. ILD measures firmness, how much pressure it takes to compress the foam. Designito uses high-density foam (typically 2.8lb to 3.5lb) calibrated with specific ILD ratings to ensure our sofas feel soft but remain structurally supportive for years.

Are the materials used in Designito furniture eco-friendly?

We focus on "Longevity as Sustainability." By using solid hardwoods and high-density foams that last 10+ years, we reduce the "fast furniture" cycle. Additionally, our foams are typically CertiPUR-US® certified, meaning they are made without ozone depleters, PBDEs, lead, mercury, or formaldehyde.
